THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL COURSE FOR AERIAL WORK PLATFORMS (AWP) OPERATORS (STATE – REGIONS AGREEMENT February 22, 2012)

  • Description

The course provides aerial work platforms operators (with and without stabilizers) with specific theoretical and practical notions.

  • Course program

    1. LEGAL AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK MODULE (1 hour)
1.1. Course presentation. Reference to the laws concerning hygienic and safety norms at work and focus on works at height and related equipment (legislative decree n. 81, 2008). Operator’s responsibility

    2. TECHNICAL MODULE (3 hours)
2.1. AWP Categories: general and specific characteristics and differences
2.2. Components: stabilisation systems, levelling, frame, slewing turret, pantograph structure and raiseable mechanical arm
2.3. Safety and control advices: their identification and functions
2.4. Checks before the use: visual and functional checks
2.5. Specific PPE: helmets, harness, ropes and their uses (included attachment points)
2.6. safe use of AWP and risks: risks evaluation and analysis (environmental risks, electrocution risks, fall form a height), moving and translation, positioning and stabilisation, manoeuvres, power supply and parking)
    2.7. Rescue procedure: Emergency descent

    3.3 PRACTICAL MODULE (6 hours)
3.3.1 Components identification: stabilisation systems, levelling, frame, slewing turret, pantograph structure, raiseable mechanical arm, platforms and devices
3.3.2.  Safety and control advices: their identification and functions
3.3.3. Checks before the use: visual and functional checks, control devices check, safety devices present on the AWP (see the instruction manual)
3.3.4. check before on-street use: checks of conditions (power take off, lifting structures and stabilizers)
3.3.5. Itinerary planning: slopes, access, obstacles on path and at height, ground conditions
3.3.6. Moving and stabilisation of AWP: work area delimitation, public road signs, AWP moving, stabilizers positioning and levelling
3.3.7. Practical and operational sessions: training in two thirds of the work area and operational procedures observation.
3.3.8. Emergency manoeuvres: How to recover the platform which is positioned at height from the ground
3.3.9.  AWP resting after work: parking, precautions against unauthorized use. Safe batteries recharging

  • Next dates

    Weekly frequency

  • Certification

    Accredited entity

  • Prerequisites

    None

  • Purpose

To provide the operators with adequate knowledge and practical training

  • Conducted by

According to the different themes, the course will be conducted by personnel with documented experience in the field of training, prevention, safety and health in work environments and personnel with at least 3 years of documented experience in the use of aerial work platforms

  • Contents

Legal and regulatory framework module (1 hour)
    technical module (3 hours)

Practical module: aimed at the certificate necessary to the use of AWP with and without stabilizers (6 hours)
At the end of the 2 theoretical modules there will be an intermediate test with multiple choice concerning also PPE. Passing the test (70% of the answers must be correct) will allow the delegates to attend the practical course. In case of failure the theoretical modules must be repeated.

    3.3 point:
    a) movement and stabilisation of the AWP on the workstation (check before the use -check before on-street use -itinerary planning- AWP positioning- temporary resting after use)
    b) manoeuvres: itinerary planning, positioning and moving with operator on board(translation), up/down movements, rotation, approach to the workstation

c)simulations of manoeuvres in case of emergency (operator rescue- behaviour in case of failures)

All the practical test must be successful.

The failure of the final test entails the obligation to repeat the practical module.

If all the tests results are successful and the participant attends at least 90% of the entire course, he will be provided with a certificate that officially allows the use of AWP.
