ADVANCED FIREFIGHTING FOR EMERGENCY TEAMS

  • Description

The advanced fire-fighting course for emergency teams is structured to provide theoretical and practical knowledge, for emergency team members, on fire risks and the correct use of fire-fighting equipment and means

The course consists of a theoretical part and practical training during which trainees will have to demonstrate their level of understanding of the program content

    • Fuels and their characteristics
    • Flammability temperature, ignition temperature, flammability range
    • Trigger energy: examples of trigger source
    • Products of combustion: light, heat, fumes, combustion gases
    • Hints on combustion products (CO – CO2 ) and their action on humans
    • Classification of fuels
    • Extinguishing agents and their characteristics
    • Maximum intervention potential in relation to available means
    • Examination of emergency situations that might occur

    Prevention

    • Specific fire prevention measures
    • Main behavioural measures to prevent fires:
      • importance of workplace control;
      • importance of checks and measures to prevent fires.

    Active and passive protection

    • Fixed and mobile fire-fighting systems
    • Detection: smoke, heat and light detectors
    • Compartmentalization
    • Exit routes
    • Reaction of materials to fire

    Emergency Plan

    • Procedures to be taken when a fire is discovered
    • Procedures to be taken in the event of an alarm
    • Evacuation mode
    • Ways of calling emergency services
    • Cooperation with the fire brigade in the event of an intervention

    Personal protective equipment

    • Means of protection and methods of use
    • Protective clothing
    • Respiratory protection:
      • air composition and negative consequences of oxygen-deficient air
      • breathable air
      • gas masks, dust masks, choice of filters, limitations, self-contained breathing apparatus,
    • Description, autonomy, application of supplied-air respirators
    • Protection of head, face, eyes, hands

    Practical fire-fighting exercises

    • Extinguishing with powder extinguishers on 5 m2 rectangular tank
    • Extinguishing with powder extinguishers on 9 m2 circular tank
    • Fire extinguishing intervention with CO2 extinguishers in a closed environment of a burning switchboard
    • Extinguishing liquid under pressure (inclined plane) with powder extinguishers
    • Extinguishing liquid under pressure (flange coupling) with powder extinguishers
    • Simulated interventions with the emergency team
    • Intervention on circular tank and flange coupling leakage (simultaneous) with powder and fractional water extinguishers
    • Training tank test for claustrophobia
    • Practical intervention in an enclosed environment invaded by non-toxic smoke for theoretical and practical familiarisation with respiratory protection devices, continuous monitoring with infrared cameras, stressful situations with disturbing sounds, shouting, explosions, etc.
    • Tests with self-protectors for the optimisation of air consumption using:
      • conveyor belt (treadmill)
      • variable speed endless step ladder
      • dynamometers
    • Exercises in a closed multi-storey building for rescuing people in the presence of smoke and heat
    • Interception of a pressurised gas leakage fire
    • Firefighting on fuel transport tanker truck
    • Fire-fighting intervention on a leak from the “Rack”, positioned at a height of no less than 4 m, with powder extinguishers and fractioned water (the leak affects a staircase – walkway located at the base of the “Rack” and having a walking surface at a height of +1 m)
    • Demonstration of high, medium and low expansion foam system operation
    • Firefighting on 100 m2 fires with foaming liquids
    • Fire tunnel crossing intervention using heat-reflecting aluminised suits
